"Feeling Ready In Every New And Difficult Situation"

Note: If you have spoken to our office staff and have received instructions to enroll your child in FRIENDS online, click here.

Introduction:
The F.R.I.E.N.D.S. Program is an after-school social skills group for school-age boys and girls who are struggling to be successful at school, on the playground, with peers or at home. Children in our program are those who try very hard to make friends or keep friends, but often find themselves unsuccessful in doing so, for a variety of reasons. Often, due to impulsivity, attention deficit, or simply not identifying and responding to the cues of their peers, these children fail at something they desperately want, much to the disappointment and discouragement of both themselves and their parents, coaches, or teachers.

FRIENDS is held at Park Village Elementary School in Rancho Penasquitos on Monday and Wednesday afternoons from 4PM to 5:30PM. Sessions are held in the Fall, Winter and Spring and we enroll on an ongoing basis. Fees are prorated depending on the number of days in which a child participates. Park Village Elementary School is located at 7930 Park Village Rd 92129, just off of Black Mountain Rd and the 56 freeway.

Fall Session 2010 (begins enrollment August 2010): Monday September 20 to Wednesday November 10 (8 weeks, 16 meetings) - Fee = $500

The program fee includes 16 total afternoon meetings (90 minutes each) and 2 one hour parent meetings, along with all program activities and a daily snack. We enroll on an ongoing basis - it is not too late to begin a session at any time, unless the group is completely full.

Philosophy:
We help children learn to succeed with their peers, and do this by creating a positive environment in which they participate in both structured and unstructured activities, followed by opportunities to both give and receive feedback on their peers in a supportive and fun manner. We help children handle difficult situations more effectively - they learn to handle their feelings better. Also, children in our program learn to articulate their feelings more clearly, helping them in turn handle things more appropriately.

Activities:
The F.R.I.E.N.D.S. Program is FUN! We play lots of camp games: capture the flag, scavenger hunts, dodge ball, & many other outdoor activities. We also play indoor games, board games, partner games and much more! Lego building contests, GPS hikes in the Los Penasquitos Preserve, and pumpkin carving are highlight days for our FRIENDS kids. Role plays are also a part of the afternoon. Children are placed with partners, small groups and one big group throughout the day, which provides them with many varied opportunities to learn effective skills in different types of social situations.

Staff:
F.R.I.E.N.D.S is directed by Stuart Jones. Stuart has a Master's degree in developmental psychology and a broad recreational background in summer camping for children. For six years he co-directed the BLAST social skills program in Pasadena, CA, a similiar program serving children who needed help and guidance to succeed socially. Filling out the FRIENDS staff are the other Outpost Directors on a rotating basis. Click here to read more about Outpost's Directors.

We strongly encourage interested families to call us for a free phone consultation regarding the program and its appropriateness for your child. Our office number is (858) 842-4900.
