For campers entering 6th through 9th grade
Senior Outpost is a unique program specifically designed for middle-school campers who are ready for the excitement and exploration of a travel adventure program. The program is designed to offer positive risk taking experiences and opportunities to try new activities and learn advanced skills.

Each Senior Outpost session includes one or more trips to several high adventure programs - including but not limited to: rockclimbing, sailing, challenge course, and a high ropes course. In addition to these programs, beach trips, teambuilding activities, swimming, scavenger hunts, and old-fashioned adventure round out the three week session. Because of the many exciting activities, Senior Outpost is a 5-day per week program only.
Our rockclimbing program is held outdoors at Mission Trails Regional Park (Mission Gorge) off the 52 freeway. This area is renowned for its natural climbing opportunities, and we make the most of them!
We offer top-roped climbs and rappells, and safety is always our primary focus. All participants wear harnesses and helmets, and are instructed in basic climbing techniques prior to participation. We begin with easier climbs and increase the challenges based upon the comfort level and desire of each camper.
Senior Outpost activities, including but not limited to rockclimbing, adheres to a Challenge by Choice philosophy. Campers are empowered to articulate limits and be in complete control of their choices regarding participation in our challenge activities. This means that no one at Outpost is ever forced or pressured to participate in any activity past his/her own "comfort zone".
We sail at the Mission Bay Aquatic Center, located inside Mission Bay just north of Sea World. All campers complete a swim test and an hour of classroom instruction prior to taking out the boats in the Center's tightly supervised sailing area.
Senior Outpost campers split up into pairs, with each pair responsible for one boat. By the end of our sailing day, campers are skillfully maneuvering their boats all over the Bay!
We partner with UCSD's Outback Adventures to offer an outstanding vertical challenge opportunity - the Alpine Tower. Campers work either individually or in pairs to climb the tower and complete several "elements" that are designed to develop teamwork, self-confidence and positive risk-taking skills. All campers wear full-body harnesses and helmets, and are belayed by experienced OSC and UCSD staff.
